Micro Mosaic Jewelry

One of the greatest bargains in Jewelry is micro mosaic jewelry, because of the painstaking and time intensive process of crafting these jewelry pieces.

They are fine works of art design, and craftsmanship. Usually, they are crafted into brooches and bracelets.

Micro mosaic jewelry first began in Italy in the late 1700’s, and the highest quality of these pieces are found there. In the 1800’s, they were often made specifically for wealthy donors to the church. A jewelry designer would craft a micro mosaic brooch, or bracelet, for a wealthy donor, as a thank you gift. Often these were modeled after a scene in the church.

In the middle of the 1800’s, micro mosaic jewelry was often sold in Italy as a replica of a tourist attraction, that visitors could take home with them, after their visit.

Micro Mosaic jewelry uses a material called tesserae. Some pieces of micro mosaic jewelry use thousands of these pieces, to craft a design. Often flowers are arranged in a mosaic pattern, using tesserae. Sometimes black marble or black onyx is lined around the outside of the design, to highlight the design.

The highest quality of these designs were usually crafted in Italy, because the design originated there.

Micro mosaic jewelry is a treasure that can be passed down from one generation to the next.
